To become a tutor with ScienceTutors.co.uk we recommend you do the following:

Register as self-employed

ScienceTutors.co.uk tutors are hired as contractors. Therefore, you will need to register as self employed for tax purposes. Details on self-employment can be found on the HM Revenue & Customs: Self Employed website. 

Get a CRB check

Many of our tutors have CRB checks and we encourage all our tutors to get them.  Preference will usually be given to those tutors who have the CRB check, so getting one is a good way to make sure that you get as much work as possible.  Current identification from a company or other entity that requires SC or DV clearance will also be accepted.

Be prepared to travel

Most of our tutors tend to be in cities, where their universities are. Most people requesting tuition tend to live further out.  Being willing to travel will make you more employable. In some cases, where the distance required to be travelled is significant, a negotiation may be made for a sucharge to be added to the tuition fee to compensate for the extra time and cost.

Make sure you are up to date

Make sure you are up to date with the latest syllabuses from all the different exam boards.  The syllabuses often change from year to year so make sure that you are prepared for any questions that the tutee may have.

Data Sharing Policy

Any details supplied may be used by ScienceTutors.co.uk Limited and within the Bowers Hobbs Education Limited group of companies. Details will be used for employment purposes only.  Your details will not be supplied to companies outside the Bowers Hobbs Education Limited group of companies.  Your academic record, or part thereof, may be given to clients (tutees) to check for compatibility.

Tutor Pay Rates

Payment

Payment can be made by bank account transfer or PayPal.  Payments can also be made by cheque, for which a £1.75 administration fee will be levied.  If you would like to be paid by bank account transfer, please send your bank account details to us when you have accepted a firm offer of tuition.

ScienceTutors.co.uk Limited aims to make payment to its tutors within 5 working days of receiving the money from the tutee.  In the event of late payment or complications we aim to pay all of our tutors, regardless of payment by the tutee, within 30 days of the tuition taking place.
